KIWU students complete month-long English course

Twenty-five students from Kyung-in Women’s University (KIWU) of Incheon, South Korea satisfactorily completed the Four-Week English Language Course conducted by the University from July 4 – 29, 2016.


Aside from the core English as a Second Language (ESL) course, the students undertook an array of applied activities meant to supplement and reinforce language learning such as immersion in a regular college English class, one-on-one conversation sessions with HAU student-buddies, film viewing, and educational tours in Manila and at the Clark Freeport Zone.


Accompanied by lead faculty Dr. Chun Sang Bok of the Department of Health and Environment, the Korean studentsalso learned the ropes of TV news castingfromAB Communication students affiliated with the HAU Communicators’ League, displayed their acting talents in a speech festival, and learned about Kapampangan culture, history, traditions and cuisine through a walking tour of the Angeles Heritage District.


Capping the students' exposure to things Philippines and Filipino, the students also received introductory lessons on local traditional dance and music from the HAU Performing Arts, the knowledge of which they gleefully demonstrated before an appreciative audience at the language program’s formal closing rites.


The University has conducted similar month-long programs for KIWU, beginning with 26 students who enlisted in the program in July 2015 and followed by the second batch of 57 students who attended in January 2016.


The English language course was conducted in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered into by HAU and KIWU through the school’s respective presidents, Dr. Luis Ma. R. Calingo and Dr. Hwa-Sun Ryoo. The linkage, whichis effective for a period of five years starting July 11, 2015, aims to foster mutual cooperation in teaching, curriculum development, training, and research.


Located in Incheon, South Korea, KIWU is an all-girl’s university founded in 1992, with course offerings in business, management, trade, tax accounting, nursing, health care, tourism, hotel management, food and nutrition, aviation and tourism, information and media, advertising, visual design, fashion design, and early childhood education.
