HAU Names New Dean for School of Engineering and Architecture

Holy Angel University (HAU) has announced the appointment of a new Dean for the School of Engineering and Architecture with effect beginning May 1, 2017. Ruby P. Henson, Ph.D., will pass the torch to Felicito S. Caluyo, Ph.D., who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the post.

In his new role, Caluyo, a former Dean in the School of EECE at the Mapua Institute of Technology and Chair in the ECE Department, College of Engineering at De La Salle University – Manila, will be in charge of the effective oversight of all academic, fiscal, and administrative affairs of the School of Engineering and Architecture. He will also be a member of the university leadership team that plays a critical role in shaping HAU’s academic agenda. Caluyo's appointment marks an important milestone in the university’s continuing pursuit of academic excellence.

"Dr. Caluyo is an intellectual visionary and will play a vital role in transforming the School of Engineering and Architecture into an outstanding model of academic leadership and excellence," noted Dr. Henson. "His career in the academe includes his contribution to scholarship and research and his professional involvement in various capacities with government, industry and higher education institutions particularly in quality assessment and accreditation, a plus factor in leading SEA to the achievement of its strategic goals."

Caluyo is an expert in technical research and an established leader in higher education with an academic career that spans 42 years. Apart from working with leading HEIs, he has received recognition from CHED and DOST for his contributions to the field of engineering and related technologies. He was appointed by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) to be an Assessor/Evaluator for applications for Center of Excellence (COE), Center of Development (COD) particularly for ECE programs and also for University status. At present, he is still involved in CHED’s assessment programs either as member of Technical Committee or Adviser. From 2008 to December 2014, Caluyo was Chair of the Technical Working Group for the Implementation of Outcomes-based Education in Engineering (TWG-OBE) for Higher Education Institutions and was a member of the Technical Panel for Engineering Technology and Agriculture (TPET).

"It has always been considered risqué to mix skill and content, the former encouraging subjectivity and the latte rigidity in its rules of compliance. I believe that Dr. Caluyo has both skill and content," said Dr. Alma S. Espartinez, HAU Vice President for Academic Affairs. "He is a man who dares to go beyond the ordinary and this makes him a valuable new member of HAU community."

Caluyo will lead and manage the operation of the school, including recruitment of faculty and staff, curriculum development, communications, and budget management. He will supervise 77 full-time faculty members, 63 part-time faculty, and staff members during his term.

On his appointment, Dr. Caluyo commented, "I look forward to join Dr. Calingo and the Holy Angel University community in the transformative journey to excellence to help make it become the University of choice, a high quality school where study engages, learning is lifelong, innovation-motivated research is collaborative, and trailblazing entrepreneurship authenticates community service, in an environment of growth in the Catholic faith.
