SED ENDS FIRST LECTURE SERIES WITH TALKS ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND RESEARCH ARTICLE WRITING

The final installment of the first lecture series of the School of Education (SED), which was held at the Peter G. Nepomuceno (PGN) Auditorium on March 25, 2017, was graced by the presence of Atty. Abel U. Mamaril, Ph.D, Administrative Officer IV at the Marikina City Mayor’s Office, who gave a lecture on sexual harassment in school setting. Also present during the half-day event was Dr. Mark Joseph T. Calano, a professor at Ateneo de Manila University, who delivered a talk regarding writing and publishing journal articles.


Atty. Abel U. Mamaril, Ph.D, the first resource speaker for the lecture forum, addressed various related topics and cases of sexual harassment in workplace and school setting. His lecture covered the types and forms of sexual harassment, possible harassers and victims in school, as well as the legal measures to be taken when faced with sexual harassment. Graduate and undergraduate students, including faculty and guests, actively participated and raised probing questions which Atty. Mamaril provided substantial responses with in the open forum held afterwards.


Atty. Mamaril is the present Administrative Officer VI/ Legal Consultant of the Office of the City Mayor of Marikina. He holds a degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Management and a degree in Master in Business Administration. He currently teaches at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina and PanPacific University North Philippines.


During the latter part of the lecture forum, Dr. Mark Joseph T. Calano, the second resource speaker, discussed and put a high premium on the significance of writing and publishing journal articles in the field of education. He provided the crowd of pre-service and in-service teachers with twelve helpful steps in writing good research articles. Dr. Calano was able to inspire and stir up the heart of the audience with his own stories of triumphs and trials in writing.


Dr. Mark Joseph T. Calano is currently an assistant professor of Philosophy Ateneo de Manila University, the president of the Philosophical Association of the Philippines (PAP), Inc., and the press relations officer (PRO) of the Philosophy Circle of the Philippines (PCP). He graduated with Latin honors in Bachelor of Philosophy, Master of Arts in Philosophy, Master of Arts in Religious Studies, and Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics.


This lecture forum is the tail end of the first lecture series of the School of Education. The first two fora regarding leadership and management, and updates on Teacher Education curriculum were both held at the same venue, Peter G. Nepomuceno Auditorium, on March 18, 2017. - Alyanna Nicole Carlos
