SHTM launches its own ‘Herb Garden’

Fresh herbs abound a previously empty lot at STL Building as HRM and Culinary Arts students of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) nurture their own herb garden. This project which was initiated to familiarize the students with the various herbs and spices is now a source of fresh ingredients for the delightful dishes prepared in their kitchen laboratories. The herb garden is also one of the features of presented by the school in the recent accreditation visit of Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality and Tourism (ACPHA).

Herbs such as mint, flat leaf parsley, rosemary and oregano are now literally picked at the backyard of the School. These herbs are dominantly used in Western, Mediterranean and Asian dishes such as lamb chops with mint gremolata, crispy rosemary chicken and fettuccine with parsley pesto and walnuts. The students can also experiment with their dishes using these aromatic herbs.

SHTM also sees this project as an opportunity to stir interest among students about herb gardening and inspire them to put up their own gardens in their respective homes.
