SHTM vies for ACPHA International Accreditation

FIRST IN ASIA—this is the banner awaiting the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) after the successful accreditation visit of Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) last August 7-9.

ACPHA is a US-based and considered as the premier accreditation commission for hospitality and tourism programs in the world. It is composed of hospitality, tourism and business professionals from across the United States who set high standards for the effective instruction and professional administration of the programs. As of this writing, 65 universities in US and three universities in Peru are awarded with the said accreditation.

More than the prestige of being the first in Asia, SHTM believes that seeking this accreditation will ensure that its programs are at par with international standards. Consistent with the university’s strategic objective of achieving Academic Quality and Organizational Excellence, SHTM takes this major step towards the internationalization of its programs. This is done by ensuring the curriculum, resources and staffing, administrative and fiscal controls, staff development, facilities, library and other concerns are well addressed.

The accreditation team composed of Dr. Daniel Crafts (Missouri State University, Kansas), Dr. Stanley Tapia-Rivera (International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Puerto Rico) and headed by Dr. Jeffrey Lolli (Widener University, Philadelphia) were given the warm Filipino hospitality by SHTM. Campus tours were conducted to show the superb facilities of the school. Interviews were also conducted with the students, student leaders, faculty members and administration. The visit was concluded with a Filipino-themed luncheon where the administration, faculty members and students bid farewell to the accreditors.

SHTM expects the official acceptance letter after the deliberation of the commission in February 2018.
