September 26, 2009 - 3rd Archdiocesan Assembly of Student Catechists 8:00am - 5:00pm

On September 26, 2009, the Holy Angel University will host of the 3rd Catechetical Assembly of Student Catechists. Spearheaded by the Commission on Catechesis, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Joseph Mary Bacay, the 3rd Catechetical Assembly of Student Catechists is a day filled activity of prayer, sharing, talks, group dynamics and presentations. The Assembly will begin with a registration at 7:30 AM in the Holy Angel University Theatre and will end with the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist, celebrated by Most Rev. Pablo Virgilio S. David D.D., SThD. Various parochial and religious schools in the Archdiocese of San Fernando will attend the said assembly. Among these schools are the following: Fatima Inc., Don Bosco Academy, Holy Rosary Academy, Assumpta Technical High School, University of the Assumption, Holy Angel University, Angeles University Foundation, Mary Help of Christians, St. Scholastica’s Academy, St. Catherine’s Academy, East Central College, Holy Family Academy, Chevalier School, St. Mary’s Academy, St. Augustine Academy, and Domincan Schools.

This year’s particular theme for the Assembly is “Faithfulness of Christ, Faithfulness of the Catechists.” This is a comforting thought as it is the same message promised by Christ to his disciples and Catechists as they are beleaguered by our indifferent world, “surely I [Jesus] am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20) As Christ has become faithful to his mission of preaching the imminence of the kingdom of God, not withstanding persecution and rejection, so as the Catechists are called to imitate Christ who has continually been fervent and arduous in his life in God.

More than communicating this beautiful truth, the annual Catechetical Assembly aims to foster camaraderie and fellowship among student catechists who are unified and motivated under Christ word “to make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey everything I [Jesus] have commanded.”(Matthew 28:16-19) It is with hope, through this meeting, that the student Catechists may explicitly know their duty and life as one who proclaims the word of God through teaching, through presence and through examples. It would be then an overwhelming joy for the Church, if Her student Catechists may imbibe in their hearts Her fervent mission of proclaiming Christ and his teachings to all those who hear but do not listen, to all those who look but not, and to all of those who are alive but are not living. This assembly is a proof of the Church’s immense valuing of Her Catechists who are genuinely nurturing of the seeds of faith. Thus, by hosting the 3rd General Assembly, the Holy Angel University shows its great unity and support for the Catechists of the Church; the gardeners of faith, and imitators of Christ.
