Scene 1
Inside the Stahlbaum home, all celebrate the special joys of Christmas. Loving a good surprise, Godfather Drosselmeier arrives. Through his genius for invention, he brings on outstanding gift to his close friends and hosts, Dr. and Mrs. Stahlbaum. Fritz’s curiosity causes momentary panic, but order is soon restored. As everyone goes to dinner, Godfather Drosselmeier presents Marie with a special present, and her child heart immediately “adopts” the noble, ugly Nutcracker. The merriment draws to a close and the family retires.

Later, in the quiet of the night, Marie’s concern for her broken Nutcracker prompts her to check his “wounds”. Before the midnight hour cam strike and pass into morning, time is stepped by Godfather Drosselmeier, who assists his dear godchild, Marie, on her first steps of magical journey.

All the friends of childhood, toys near and dear, alive with love, come to Marie’s aid led by the beloved Nutcracker. The battle is fought and finally won by the help of Marie’s courage. Alas, it is too late… our brave Nutcracker has fallen. But when courage and love save the day, things change, the Nutcracker rises, transformed to the Prince he was all along! Inviting Marie to join him, they leave on a special journey, ascending the magic ladder, past the Christmas tree star, and on to the beyond.
