Communication Arts student dominated COMGUILD 2012

With 176 participants, the students of Bachelor of Arts in Communication dominated the Annual Conference of COMGUILD. The event is an opportunity for them to meet other students in the Philippines and the icons in the field of Broadcast Journalism.

Lectures regarding the current state and the future of mass media in the country were given by Ms. Marissa Flores (Senior for Vice President for News and Public Affairs, GMA 7), Mon Tulfo (Columnist, Philippine Daily Inquirer), Dr. Carl Balita (Host, Two Thumbs Up in Studio 23 and DZMM) and Ms. Maria Ressa (President and CEO, Rappler).

The students were able to meet their preferred news personalities through COMGUILD Awards. College deans from all over the country served as the Board of Judges including the Dean of CASED, Dr. Marga B. Carreon.

These include Kara David (Best Female Reporter), Alvin Elchico (Best Male Reporter), Mel Tiangco (Best Talk Show Host), Jessica Soho (Best Female News Presenter), Ted Failon (Best Male News Presenter), 24 Oras (Best News Program) and Jiggy Manicad (Hall of Fame, Best Male Reporter).

The students went home bringing with them the challenge to join the field and the smiles of rarely meeting their favorite personalities.

“Truly, I was really inspired with the great stories of our journalist, the more that I would want to pursue to be part of the mass media in the country. The event also gave us the opportunity to meet the journalists which we only get to see on TV”, stated by Marla Ocampo, a 1st year Comm Arts student.
