Psych attends SikoPil primer at CEU

Different schools gathered on September 8, 2012 at Centro Escolar University to attend the year’s basic coverage on Sikolohiyang Pilipino hosted by the Alyansa ng mga Mag-aaral ng Sikolohiyang Pilipino (TATSULOK). The primer revolved around the theme “Sikolohiyang Natatangi sa Kulturang Pilipino”.

The second year psychology students were privileged to hear two of the experts in the field—Prof. Jayson Petras and Prof. Jose Antonio Clemente. Both speakers explained the relevance of focusing research on Sikolohiyang Pilipino, starting with introducing how the field was founded by its father, Dr. Virgilio Enriquez.

Prof. Petras discussed Sikolohiyang Pilipino is about “kamalayan, ulirat, isip, diwa, kalooban at kaluluwangisangtao” and also gave the different domains of the subject. Prof. Clemente on the other hand concretized examples of research in SikoPil. Such is his research on “pakikipagkapwatao” which elaborates on Dr. Enriquez’s theory the “kapwatao at hindi kapwatao”.

As conclusion to the seminar, Prof. Clemente encouraged the students to try to come up with researches on the local setting to improve and develop SikoPil.

The seminar proved to be a success as the students who attended gained information and motivation to further develop gray areas in Philippine Psychology.
