HAU HIGH SCHOOL BATCH 1974 (THE SPURGE) COMES HOME

After 40 long years, close to 200 members of the Holy Angel University High School Batch 1974 from here and abroad returned home to their Alma Mater to celebrate their Ruby Anniversary on February 15, 2014 at the University’s Plaza San Jose.

Anchored on the theme “Celebrating Friendship Through the Years”, HAU HS Batch 1974, also known by the moniker The Spurge, started the day’s celebrationswith a Holy Mass and prayers of thanks at the Holy Rosary Parish Church.

After Mass, the batch members trooped to the University for a guided campus tour and film showing which showcased the University’s achievements in the four decades since this year’s Ruby Jubilarians – or the majority of them – last stepped foot in the campus as fresh high school graduates eager to conquer the world.

The evening homecoming and reunion party brought back a flood of memories of the good old times, through songs and dances, amidst hearty laughter and not a few tears.

In her address, Mrs. Erlinda Cruz, HS Batch 1974 Adviser and current Cultural Activities Coordinator of the Center for Kapampangan Studies, congratulated the batch members on their milestone anniversary and for keeping the bonds of friendship strong through these many years.

For their untiring efforts to bring the event to fruition, the batch honored the members of the Jubilee Organizing Committee, namely, Rodolfo “Jing” Yabut, Edille Paras, Zar Abrea, Lita Bognot, Sylvia Bangit, Mercy Miguel, Linda Del Rosario, Noelyn Dizon, Enrico De Guzman, Alice Salvador, Thelma David-Cruz, Jubilee Secretary, Joel Mendoza, Batch Vice-President, and Norberto De Guzman, Batch President.

The batch’s high school teachers, Mr. Artemio Calma, Mr. Gerry Bognot, and Mr. Ruperto Bartolome, also graced the occasion.

During the party, Ador Yabut stirred everyone into joining the line dance, much to the delight of the crowd, while host Tito Roy Carbungco provided plenty of comic relief in his hosting chores with Ms. Lourdes “Lulu” Mayrina.

Filling the late evening air with their rendition of the song “Through the Years”, the batch brought the homecoming and reunion celebrations to a close.
