TESTIMONIAL DINNER HONORING THE NEW LICENSED ENGINEERS & ARCHITECTS OF HAU

To our beloved University President, University and College Officials, Members of the Faculty, our dear Honorees and their proud Parents or Guardians, Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good evening and welcome to the Testimonial Dinner for our New Licensed Engineers and Architects.

To you, our new professionals, congratulations for a job well done. Congratulations also to our parents who are here tonight to celebrate the fruits of their labor, and to the faculty members of the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), for this fruitful harvest of new civil engineers, electrical engineers, electronics and communications engineers, mechanical engineers and architects.

My dear honorees, you will be practicing your profession in the context of accelerating reforms and changes in our economic and political environments. The ASEAN integration, popularly known as ASEAN 2015, takes off next year. It is an initiative which, in principle, will remove much of the restrictions on the free flow of professional manpower and students between and among Southeast Asian nations. Depending on how competitive you are, ASEAN 2015 may either be an opportunity or a threat. Opportunity because doors of employment not only in the Philippines but also in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos will be open to you. Threat because you will be competing for the available local and overseas jobs not only with fellow Filipinos but with other Southeast Asian engineers and architects. The name of the game, therefore, is for you to stay competitive ─ to keep on learning, accumulating work experiences, updating, and building your competencies.

We trust that here in Holy Angel, we have equipped you with the knowledge, skills, abilities and values to compete and find your place under the sun. We have also imbued in you the value of lifelong learning.

More than these, we have instilled in you the gospel values that Christian engineers and architects should profess and live by, so that inspired by the greatest Master Designer and Builder of all times, our LORD JESUS, you will make a significant difference in the lives of the people who will be affected by your future professional engagements, works and projects.

Again, Congratulations and Laus Deo semper.
